IOM Information and Return Counselling Centres in Berlin and Brandenburg
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) runs two Counselling Centres in Berlin and in Brandenburg for migrants interested in returning to their country of origin.
The counseling services are open to all third-country nationals living in Berlin and Brandenburg who are interested in voluntary return to their country of origin. The Counselling Centres attach great importance to neutral and, if requested, anonymous counseling.
Areas of counseling:
- Information about funding for voluntary return
- Information about reintegration programs
- Information about the situation in the country of return
- Referral to other institutions and aid organizations
- General guidance on organizing departure
- If requested: Contacting migration officers of the Aliens Department in order to resolve barriers to departure
The counseling service furthermore offers specific reintegration support for returnees to Vietnam and to Kenya. Voluntary returnees can receive up to 2,000 EUR of funding to support a fresh start after their return. Income generating activities, medical equipment, education and support for housing are eligible for funding. The reintegration process is facilitated by IOM Vietnam and IOM Kenya. You can find more on the Reintegration Program Vietnam here.
The Counselling Centre for the federal state Berlin was established in 2006 and is situated in the Aliens Department of the State Office for Public Administration (LABO) in order to allow for immediate consultation regarding questions of return. The Counselling Centre in Brandenburg was set up in 2015 in Eisenhüttenstadt.
