Germany joined the IOM in 1954.

Our Work
Our WorkAs the leading inter-governmental organization promoting since 1951 humane and orderly migration, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through different areas of intervention that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development. In Germany, IOM implements projects mainly in the areas of migrant protection and assistance, as well as advocating for migrants’ rights and serving as a liaison office for German funded IOM activities worldwide.

Jean-Philippe Chauzy took up office as IOM Germany’s Chief of Mission in Berlin in January 2021.
Prior to his current assignment, Mr. Chauzy served as IOM’s Chief of Mission of the Republic of South Sudan from 2018 until 2020. Before that, he led the IOM Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, starting in 2015.
From 2013 to 2015, he was the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) Director of Communications in Rome, where he was responsible for developing WFP’s communications strategies.
Mr. Chauzy started his career with IOM in 1998, serving as Head of Media and Communications and Spokesperson to the Director General in the IOM Headquarters in Geneva for almost 15 years.
Before joining IOM, Mr. Chauzy was senior producer at the BBC World Service. A French National, he holds a master's degree in langues, littératures et civilisations étrangères from the Université de Nantes, France.
