With the support of the German and Greek authorities, there have now been five relocation flights directly from Lesvos to Hanover.
The latest flight from Lesvos, the fifth of its kind, landed in Lower Saxony yesterday, bringing a further 147 refugees from Lesvos to Germany. Among those on the flight were 72 children under the age of 18, the majority of whom originate from Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia.
Flight number four arrived last Wednesday in Hanover, which saw 82 beneficiaries of international protection relocated to Germany from the Greek island.
This latest round of flights, taking place on 10th March and 17th March respectively, brings the total number of people relocated to Germany from Greece under the pledge from 9th October 2020 to 1,141.
These flights were part of a programme funded by the EU’s Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs.
