IOM has facilitated the relocation of an additional 122 people who have been granted international protection from Lesvos to Germany. This charter flight, the second of its kind this year to be organised by IOM, arrived in Hanover today. Those onboard, including 43 children under 12 years of age, are mainly from Afghanistan.
The children, along with their families, were greeted upon arrival at the airport in Hanover before travelling to a reception centre in Friedland, Lower Saxony, where they will spend the next two weeks.
Thanks to the combined efforts of IOM and Germany’s Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), 571 people have now been relocated safely from Greece to Germany under the pledge from 9th October 2020.
This flight was part of a programme funded by the EU’s Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs.
