On Wednesday, 3. December 2020, staff of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) welcomed 99 protection-seeking persons who were able to come to Germany from Greek reception centers as part of the relocation initiative.
The group consisted of several families with particularly vulnerable persons, including 14 children. 76 of the newly arrived are from Afghanistan, while the others come from Egypt, Iraq, Iran (Islamic Republic) and Somalia. IOM Germany employees welcomed the new arrivals at the airport and supported them in their journey to the respective federal states. Persons with medical needs can now receive the urgently needed medical care in Germany.
The project entitled "Voluntary Relocation from Greece" is funded by the European Commission and has been implemented by IOM in partnership with the Greek and German authorities and UNHCR since April 2020.
