IOM provides operational support regarding visa application processes, by working closely with immigration and consular authorities and other partners. IOM’s operational solutions aim at enhancing regular pathways for migration and mobility, making them more accessible, better informed, dignified, timely and transparent.
IOM Germany supports family members of migrants with a protection status in Germany in the reunification process by offering counselling via a telephone hotline and assisting in the compilation of documents in advance of an appointment at the German diplomatic representations abroad. If the German government issues a visa, IOM assists in the travel preparations. The Family Assistance Programme (FAP) is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
In the framework of the Family Tracing project run by IOM Rome on behalf of the Italian Government and in cooperation with the Italian Committee for unaccompanied foreign minors, IOM Germany contributes to the evaluation if unaccompanied migrant children in Italy, who have family members in Germany, meet the criteria for a potential family reunification in Germany.
IOM Germany also assists persons moving to Korea at a visa application centre for Korea in Berlin, which is funded by Korea.
Until 2021, IOM Germany provided support to UK Nationals in securing and maintaining their residency rights in Germany after the United Kingdom had left the EU.
