A direct flight carrying 116 refugees from the Greek Island of Lesvos arrived in Hanover on 17th February. The second flight of this year to be organized by the IOM mission in Greece saw 26 families, mainly from Afghanistan and Iraq, arrive safely in Hanover.

A team from the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) was on hand to receive the families, who then boarded busses to their final destinations in Germany.

Including those who arrived today, 449 people have now been successfully relocated from Greece to Germany, with more flights planned for the coming months under the pledge from 9th October 2020.

This flight was part of a programme funded by the EU’s Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs.
